Polling hours extended to midnight

The Electoral Affairs Commission announced tonight that due to the failure of the Electronic Poll Register system for the 2023 District Council Ordinary Election, polling hours will be extended to midnight.

At a media session this evening, Electoral Affairs Commission Chairman David Lok expressed hope that the extension would give all electors sufficient time to cast their vote, adding that this is a fair and reasonable arrangement.

All polling stations switched to using the printed-form final register for issuing ballot papers from 8.12pm.

The commission apologised to the affected electors.
