2 isolation facilities repurposed
The Government today announced that the existing community isolation facilities (CIFs) in Tsing Yi and San Tin will be partially modified for short-term use. The arrangements will last for about one year.
The works will begin progressively within this month.
After necessary modifications, the Tsing Yi CIF will provide a venue and ancillary facilities to youth uniformed groups for holding training on flag raising, foot drill and other youth development-related activities.
The Home & Youth Affairs Bureau is liaising with relevant groups on the necessary modifications, the arrangements for using the venue and the facilities. The bureau will monitor the usage situation.
As for the San Tin CIF, upon completion of the necessary modifications, the Development Bureau will arrange for the Construction Industry Council to hold training courses and trade tests, including on-site training on the Modular Integrated Construction method regarding safety legislation, lifting and assembly to support a wider adoption of the method.
The owners of the San Tin CIF's private lots have agreed to continue lending the land for such purposes.
The Government said the proposed uses are beneficial to society, the economy and people's livelihood.
It will continue to review subsequent arrangements for other community isolation and treatment facilities with a view to maintaining its capacity to respond to changes in the epidemic situation while taking into account Hong Kong's economic, livelihood and social needs.
